100th Day of School

100 days of school is a time for celebration. Both students and teachers enjoy this day because it marks 100 days of accomplishments and sets the tone for the rest of the school year. Of course, in addition to finding unique and fun ways to celebrate, you can also use the day to teach. Your 100th day celebration provides an abundance of teaching opportunities.

For example, you can place 100 colored paperclips, jelly beans, animal crackers, colored erasers or even marbles in a jar and ask children to guess how many of the jelly beans are red. It's a great unit for estimating and/or learning to calculate percentage.

Children can also take the day home with them and look for 100 in and around their homes. For example, maybe they can count 100 books in their homes or find 100 beans. The day also provides an opportunity for younger children to learn to count by two, five and ten. It's a great math day!
