World No Tobacco Day is an effort to encourage all people to abstain or quit using tobacco. It's a global holiday created by the World Health Organization in 1987.
World No Tobacco Day is celebrated every year on May 31st. Each year there is a different theme designed to generate public awareness of the health implications of tobacco. The youth is particularly vulnerable. Tobacco companies know this and target them in their advertising and marketing campaigns. According to the World Health Organization, studies have shown that the more youth are exposed to tobacco advertising, the more likely they are to smoke and use tobacco.
