Veterans Day is an annual United States holiday honoring military veterans. It originated in 1919 when U.S. President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed an Armistice Day. In 1925 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed it a national holiday and congress approved it. But it wasn't until a shoe repair store owner in Kansas began campaigning for a day to honor all veterans that the day officially became Veterans Day. A bill for the holiday was pushed through Congress and President Dwight Eisenhower signed it into law on May 26, 1954.
