June is National Safety Month. NSM, sponsored by the National Safety Council, is all about teaching children, and adults, how to be safe. The goal is to teach about how to avoid the leading causes of preventable injuries and death. Each week, during the month, is dedicated to a particular theme or cause. Common themes during national safety month include road safety, bike safety, stranger danger, and internet safety.
These are all, of course, essential lessons for young children. School age children can benefit from units on bus safety, fire safety, and stranger danger. However, there are also benefits to teaching about sun safety, playground safety, and road safety.
Teacher Planet Helps Teach National Safety Month
Teaching children how to be safe is a combined effort. And children often take the lessons home and remind their parents how to be safe in and around the home and on the road. Safety lessons in your classroom have a broad reach. Use the lesson plans, teaching resources, and safety units to plan and organize your information. Take advantage of the worksheets, hands on activities and the clip art to really bring the information home and into the young minds of your students.
