St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day is a day of celebration. Parades, green beer, and getting pinched if you're not wearing green are common traditions associated with this holiday. However, St Patrick's Day is actually a religious holiday.

St. Patrick came from a religious family. Both his father and grandfather were deacons. Born in the fourth century, he was captured by raiders at the age of sixteen and taken as a slave. He received a message from God to flee. He did and made his way to Britain and eventually back to Ireland. He used the Shamrock shape to teach the trinity of the Christian church.

St. Patrick's Day is a religious holiday. However, it's also an opportunity to explore the traditions of another culture. It's a great opportunity for food, crafts and classroom celebration. It also presents an opportunity for learning and can serve as the foundation for writing, history and even math and science lessons.

Teacher Planet has all the resources you need to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in style and teach elementary and middle school children about the customs, history and traditions of the Irish culture. Enjoy lesson plans, crafts, worksheets, activities, clip-art and a wealth of teaching resources.
